In a surprising move, the Miami Heat signed journeyman point guard and Puerto Rican sensation Carlos Arroyo to a one-year $1.1 million dollar non-guaranteed contract.  Heat coach Eric Spoelstra said Carlos was signed to be the backup point guard to alleged Alaskan Mario Chamlers.  Arroyo tweeted his thanks to his aunt for setting him up in his hometown in what is sure to be a spectacular return to South Beach.

The signing brings with it some controversy.  As reported here early this week, Spoelstra was recently excommunicated and banished from his native land of the Philippines after Carlos Arroyo’s distant aunt, Philippine President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, publically decried the point guard situation of the roster.  There is no official word yet on whether or not this personnel move will lead to Spoelstra’s return to grace in the eyes of his natuve Philippines, but sources say there are moves happening in the shadows of the corridors of Filipino power.  Stay logged in as this breaking story continues to unfold.
